‘3 Step Rewind’ Trauma Release Technique for Difficult and Traumatic Experiences
The ‘3 Step Rewind’ technique is a gentle, effective method rooted in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), that specifically helps to alleviate the emotional burdens of traumatic experiences. In the birth world, this can be:

A traumatic birth

A difficult/distressing breastfeeding or feeding experience

NICU experience
-
Any traumatic or distressing post-natal experience.
The process can support you with and distressing experience you’ve had surrounding parenthood, but is most commonly used to support birth trauma.
The process reprograms the way your memories are stored in your brain, allowing you to experience them without the associated distress and anxiety. Importantly, it achieves this without requiring you to extensively discuss or analyse the traumatic events, thus preventing re-traumatisation. It is different to talking therapy and does not require you to share your story if you are not comfortable to do so. At the end of the process, you will still remember the experiences, but the difficult feelings should feel less intense, and less triggering back to the trauma state you were in when you experienced them.
Understanding trauma relating to the birth and early days of your baby
Experiencing trauma during childbirth or the during the perinatal period, can lead to persistent emotional distress. Common symptoms include:

Constant replaying of the event.

Avoidance behaviors to steer clear of reminders of it.

Hypervigilance, anxiety, and anger that can wear down confidence and resilience.
These symptoms are often a result of your brain’s fight-or-flight response being triggered unnecessarily, replaying the difficult feelings associated with the trauma. The 3 Step Rewind technique helps by resetting these responses.
Process Overview
The Three Step Rewind process is held over 3 sessions, each designed to gradually ease the emotional impact of the traumatic birth experience. It can be done face to face at my snug in Taverham, or over zoom.

The 3 step rewind is not “therapy” in the traditional sense. It is a process of moving and restructuring memories to make them easier to cope with.
